Research Interests:
Marine microbial ecology; genome composition, population genetics and ecophysiology of cryptic Escherichia in the marine environment; horizontal transfer of antibiotic resistance genes; microbial source tracking of fecal pollution in coastal marine environment
Assistant Professors

Karen Kit-yu CHAN

PhD University of Washington
Email: karenchan@ust.hk
Website
Research Interests:
Combining coastal oceanographic and engineering-based observational techniques with physiological and behavioral experiments, our work focuses on the main question of how individual experience in the plankton affects population dynamics. The three major research foci are: 1) interactions between organisms and their fluid environment; 2) impacts of anthropogenic stressors on early life stages; and 3) plankton diversity and connectivity implications in Hong Kong waters.
